Nexium 24HR 20 mg tablets are for use by patients who are hypersensitive to esomeprazole, to any of the esters of with any other proton-pump inhibitor. This makes it extremely effective. Patients who are not sensitive to esomeprazole should not take this medicine.

Nexium 24HR 20 mg tablets are for use by patients who are hypersensitive to any other proton-pump inhibitor. It belongs to a group of medicines called “serts” or “sisters”, which are used to treat GERD and other conditions caused by persistent or painful painful reflux or heartburn.

Nexium 24HR 20 mg tablets are used to treat:

• prevent relapse of chronic heartburn (caused by esomeprazole, other proton-pump inhibitors, or other conditions that cause or worsen heartburn)

• damage to the stomach from duodenal ulcer, malabsorption or absorption of the medication

Nexium 24HR 20 mg tablets act by blocking a proton-pump protein produced by an enzyme called proton pump, causing the stomach to overproduce this proton pump. This causes the cells in the stomach to become malabsorbed in the bile.

Nexium 24HR 20 mg tablets also slow down the production of proton pump inhibitors, decreasing the amount of these enzyme in the stomach. This helps to decrease the amount of proton pump inhibitors in the stomach.

Nexium 24HR 20 mg tablets are used to treat the symptoms of GERD, which is a condition where persistent or painful reflux or heartburn in the stomach produces a burning sensation in the upper stomach.
